Have you come across the National Back Exchange (NBE)? Someone asked me this question recently. Personally I have been a member for about 11 years. As an organisation it is going from strength to strength. You will notice that there are two dedicated safe

safe patient moving and handling conferences mentioned in this newsletter. One of which is boasting its 11th conference while the other is declaring its 17th. It may surprise some of you to know that the NBE recently held their 19th moving and handling of people conference.

Established in 1988 the National Back Exchange is a multi-disciplinary group for those with an interest in backcare and prevention of work related musculoskeletal problems

Aims

To promote the exchange of information and ideas on back care

To develop and promote common standards of training in safer handling

To promote initiatives and act as a forum for providing evaluation and audit of current practice in all matters associated with back care

To lobby employers to provide back care advisory services to reduce work related back problems

To provide support and advice for members

Benefits of Membership

Those of you who already are members, do you take advantage of the website? There are 941 members registered to use the web site, but only a handful of these seem to do regular posts. It is a resource where you can go to get peer support and help with a variety of subjects. For instance in the last month people have asked questions and sought advice relating to Link trainers, turning people in theatre, tilting beds, Inter Professional Curriculum, communication, e-learning, insurance providers, back care, health questionnaires, pushing/pulling beds, crash/falls mats and uncooperative patients. One of these had 8 replies one of them has yet to receive a reply, but with up to 232 people reading the responses, this shows that several hundred people are missing out.

We have a good forum here but it could be used so much more.
