The new Multi-Media moving and handling production mentioned in the last newsletter is well on the way to completion. The CD just needs a little tidying up, the manual is complete, the e-learning is simply waiting for the final touches to the DVD, which, as just suggested is almost complete.
I anticipate that the whole package will be available from August. Those of you who were familiar with my previous production
may remember it comprised a DVD, CD and a manual all neatly presented in a blister pack which graced any shelf which it happened to be placed on. This next version will follow a similar theme except there are two DVDs a presentation CD which knocks the socks off any PowerPoint presentation you may have seen. The manual is directly linked to the CD which gives a justification of each page on the presentation.
The final stage which is well under way is the filming and editing of the DVDs. Most of the filming is done. The editing is
the bit where I discover all of the errors made during filming. There has been a few, so sorry to all concerned for the retakes and thank you for your patience. These have set the project back a couple of weeks.
DVDs
As with all of my previous productions I don’t recommend that they are used as tutor substitutes. To this end, I have designed it to be aimed at the tutor level rather than the classroom level. The commentary for example on DVD-1 is aimed towards what you can expect from your students during practical sessions and picks up on many of the minor points that can potentially go un-noticed by an instructor.
The 2nd DVD is a series of master-classes from many high profile subject experts. These three minute videos help the instructor in a number of areas that they may not be totally familiar with, but who require a little guidance towards gaining greater understanding of the subject. Typically, these sessions describe a concept then finish by telling the instructor where they can get further information. One example is on this page and you will find another in the M&H TV link at the top of each page on this web site.
The Dual DVD set will be available for purchase at £125 + VAT or the whole Multi-media Training Package which includes an e-learning refresher course aimed at instructors, will be made available at around £330 + VAT.
Instructors Course
Any who register for the £720 ($1,150) + vat 5-day moving and handling instructors course will receive the package free as part of their course materials. The moving and handling instructors course is a minimum requirement according to the National Back Exchange (Standards in Manual Handling 2010) that any key worker involved with people handling education should have. This is true for ward based trainers as well as other key workers.
As many of you know, in order to access funding from government agencies it is a UK requirement also that all trainers have PTLLS (preparing to teach in the life long learning sector) as a minimum teaching qualification. Although at the moment it is not demanded everywhere, more and more places are looking for their trainers to become qualified teachers. To this end, we can also offer the PTLLS course as a £200 ($320) optional extra to any who do the instructors course. A quick search on the internet shows that this is the most cost effective means of gaining the PTLLS certification. The PTLLS course is a distance learning package with full tutor support.
This is an example of one of the master classes. Here Jacqui Hall discusses training & its relationship with clinical practice.
Refresher Courses
As an introductory offer, any who register during the months of July & August for the £145 one day classroom based refresher, or the £85 e-learning refresher (see below) both aimed at instructors will qualify for a massive 50% discount which makes the package available for £165.
REBA Course
Likewise, any who register for the one-day REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) Course will also qualify for a 50% discount. REBA is one of the main risk assessment tools used in moving and handling of people. Using key body points, this tool quantifies a level of risk which makes justifying training or equipment purchase that much easier.
E-Learning
There are two levels of e-learning involved with the training package. These are also available separately. The instructors refresher course is aimed at existing instructors. Where you did your original course is of no relevance, there have been many who have completed courses from a host of other companies, colleges and universities. It comprises nine sections looking at risk assessment, physiology, the falling patient duty of care, legislation etc. It also has an assessment tool for one of your peers to conduct a one-to one assessment face to face. This optional part can be done through Nordic Care Services at an additional cost if you cannot find a peer to assist.
The second level is a four part course which can be done either as a pre-course requisite (as Teesside University do with their nursing students before the go for practical training), or as further reading following a classroom based. Course. Alternatively, it could be used as remedial measure to assist those who need further training. The cost of this level is dependent upon numbers of students in an establishment. I will be presenting a session at the NBE conference in September along side Linda Allen of Teesside University regarding their success at implementing this with their nursing students.
