In the last issue I ran a story about a new design to a toileting sling. This generated a good bit of discussion and as a reuslt Mark Wilcock from Horcher Medical Systems has improved the design somewhat.

I have had a go of the sling in Horchers manufacturing plant in Durham (UK) and I believe it to be a missing link. It really does fill a gap (no pun intended) in the market. It is widely documented that only 25% of people who require hoisting can safely use a toileting sling. This design will dramatically increase that figure giving the good access that toileting slings provide while at the same time giving an increased level of support to the people using the sling.

Continue.

Before it is tightened this is

just an ordinary toileting sling

The sling is fitted in exactly the same way as a standard toileting sling but then as the person is raised, a belt is moved under the patient and tightened by pulling down on the straps on either side. This not only prevents the person from slipping further through the aperture but feels very comfortable and supportive.
