The poor mice have been getting experimented on again. Scientists in the Sweden have kept them cold to encourage blood vessel growth in the adipose tissue.

The result was that white fat cells were transformed into brown fat cells. Brown cells are used in hibernating animals as they generate heat when broken down. In humans, they are found in new born babies. Any heat generated obviously is as a result of metabolic activity, thus fighting obesity.

The scientists hope that finding a way to stimulate blood vessel growth would open up avenues of treatment not only for obesity, but also other metabolic disorders such as diabetes.
