Chiropractic care has gone to the dogs. Or at least it has in one veterinarian clinic in the USA. Laurel Bjornson's patients are animals. She specialises in providing chiropractic care to not only cats and dogs but on animals as large as horses as well.
Her patients are usually refered to her from other veterinarians. "If you pet your dog and there's a very, very warm spot in a particular area and perhaps you poke there along that area and you see a skin twitch response or a pain response, then that would be an indication to an owner that maybe this is a chiropractic issue."
Angel, a 10-year-old mixed breed, has arthritis and back pain that limit her movement. "She immediately feels better," Boone said. "There are parts of her that feel better than others, but we are working on those. Her mobility is increasing gradually."
Bjornson said her animal patients are the best proof of chiropractic care's effectiveness. "They don't just think they feel better. They either feel better or they don't," she said. "When they come in and they're really, really sore and you put them back down on the floor after you've done the adjustment and they do a big doggy shake and pant and prance around like they're all happy, those are the ones you really like to see."
