“Moving On - Exploring new directions in people handling” is the theme of this years conference by the Australian association for manual handling of people (AAMHP). The three day programme begins each day at 7:30 with a yoga session.
Moving On conference is scheduled for October 13th - 15th 2010
Arjo will be considering how to making the right choices for space in elderly care. Carole Johnson from Cambridgeshire will be assisting key people to check that their interventions really are having the desired effect, while Tracy Nowicki will be offering advice on how to go about attempting to change the mindset regarding the handling of bariatrics.
There are a an amazing 36 short presentations falling into four main categories, Equipment Space, and design; Research & Exploring New
Directions; People Handling Challenges and Worker Health, Safety and Wellness.
There are many other sessions including one about peer assessment. This is a method which I advocate on my e-learning refresher programme for instructors. It gives mention that it has the potential to cause havoc but done with thought can be a good cost saving approach.
Pat Alexander form Herts Handling will be delivering 2 lectures on correct sling selection and a workshop in handling paediatrics.
With a total of 54 sessions and workshops, this looks as if it is going to be a great conference for any who can make it.
The UK is represented by Pat Alexander (above, not the one in red), Carole Johnson (below) is also speaking
