The wheelchair that you see here is the Breezy Moonlight manual wheelchair by Sunrise Medical. There have been reports of the backrest hinge failing suddenly, having the potential for injury to either the user of the assistant of the wheelchair. The MHRA have issued a warning and said all chairs manufactured before 08 August 2008, with serial numbers preceding ML18T08081033 are affected.
In one incident, the chair user fell backwards out of the chair but fortunately their injury was only minor.
Sunrise Medical will replace free of charge all the hinges that have been affected.
