The ageing population of Singapore has seen a sharp increase in falls among the elderly. As a result, a number of falls clinics have been established. It is well documented that a fall can lead to the fear of falling. This fear can then increase the likelihood of a fall.

Fees start at $24 for a person to be seen in the clinic but will vary depending upon the amount of intervention required. Many falls can be prevented by advise on suitable footwear, however all visitors are given a holistic assessment of their condition. They are assessed as to the condition of their heart and lungs as well as hearing and vision. Any medication is reviewed as is their gait and other functional status.


Anyone “falling” into a moderate risk factor or higher

is automatically referred to a physio for a more detailed personalised assessment.


Prevention is better than cure as the saying goes and this seems like an obvious way forward in falls management.
