The Guide to the Handling of People 5th edition (HOP5) is a book that many of use utilise as means of proving our methods and suggestions. It is a book that is quoted in courts of law and in almost every publication and article dealing with the art of safe patient handling. As such, it is also a book that many of us hide behind when people or powers that be give us a hard time, directing them to its “authority”. But who are the people behind the book? Where has their recognition come from?

This is the first in a new series of introducing you to the authors of HOP5. Starting with Mike Betts, co-author of chapter 17 which is dealing with the falling and fallen person. Mike has his own business, MJB Training and recently became the chairman of the National Back Exchange.
