According to the Department of Health, on current trends, nearly 60% of the UK population will be obese by 2050.

This huge increase will put considerable strain on healthcare providers, especially when it comes to moving and handling these individuals. Manual handling injuries can happen to anyone regardless of capability, age, strength or fitness, as in reality there is no threshold below which manual handling operations may be regarded as “safe”. An indication of the new and varied manual handling problems the rise in obesity will present can already be seen around the country.
