Wandering around the stands at the NBE conference in the hope of finding something truly unique and new often seems like wishful thinking. However, this time there were a couple of things that caught my eye.

The Millie-Mova from www.jenry.co.uk

One was the clips on the sling at the Hospital Direct stand, which I will look at next month but the big thing to really get my attention was the Millie-Mova by Jenry Ltd. This simple piece of equipment seems too good to be true. Watch the video and it really is as simple as it appears to be. I am used to seeing new ideas costing a fortune, but this is just about £38. When the person is seated and the wheels are retracted, it is firmly planted on the floor. I had a go of it and tried to tip myself backwards, but as soon as the chair went onto the back legs, it just gently rolled away from the table. It was impossible to tip over.

onto the back legs, it just gently rolled away from the table. It was impossible to tip over. I don’t know if you met Henry Clayton, but he was not exactly a small chap, but I moved him in and out while sitting on the chair with the greatest of ease. It couldn’t have been easier if he was sitting in a wheelchair.

It solves a common mealtime problem. It is a simple device that fits any dining chair and allows a carer to move a seated person up to and away from the table very easily and safely. The previous version only allowed forward movement, but now the new “system” allows much easier forward movement and also now BACKWARDS movement.

The millie-mova system is easily fitted to virtually any dining chair using DIY tools. Each millie-mova system comes with full fitting instructions, a Risk Assessment and a Do’s and Don’ts list. Just press the lever down with your foot to move somebody to and from the table.

Features of the millie-mova system include:

•  Eliminates risk of injury to Staff

•  Safeguards services user’s legs and hands

•  Prolongs chair life

•  Fits nearly every dining chair

•  Improves chair stability

•  Easily installed

The fact that the chair is receiving less stress should mean that as an added bonus, the chair itself will last longer as well. I honestly cannot praise this item enough. I believe it to be the single best invention for assisting with the safe handling of people since the hoist.

Get one !!! Or as many as you need.
