Moving and Handling UK is a new group on the LinkedIn network. Obviously, as the name implies, the group is designed for UK based moving and handling instructors. “I thought that as members we could problem solve and support each other with any difficulties that may arise. I believe that a multidisciplinary approach will allow us to move forward with our moving and handling safely and professionally and that the emergency services side of Moving and Handling People UK will achieve a greater voice as a result” said group owner Stan Chapman MSc BSc (Hons) MCSP MIIAI ATLS.

So far, since it was formed on 29th January the group has risen to the dizzy heights of 24 members and already a new product is being tested and new contacts have been made. If you are not a member of LinkedIn (and I realise that the majority of you are not) it is a great way of getting to know others in your field.

LinkedIn works by connecting you with other professional contacts. Unlike facebook though, it is based on professionalism rather than a means of general social networking.

Recent discussions have centred around dual fixings on slings, new legislation surrounding profiling beds and bed hand blocks.

Once you have registered for LinkedIn go to the top right hand corner and change the search bar for “Groups” instead of “People” then type in Moving and handling. You can also request connections with people who you think may be worth getting to know. Please search me out and add me to your connections list.
