If you have never been to a conference before, Naidex is a great place to start. It is free to enter and there are many seminars and other things to see. This year, I will be there, so if you want to put a face to a name, come and see me on the 6th April. I will be assisting Carole Johnson at 11:30 in the public arena.

The professional arena gives CPD accreditation.

The 1st day (Tuesday 5th April) has a variety of topics being discussed including, A day in the life of a Canine Partner; Paul Thomas will speak about looking at your ability rather than disability; Conductive Education; Living with disability; Moving and handling for family carers; & The use of the Wii in rehabilitation.  


Day 2 (6th April) sees a repeat of some of the above sessions but in addition there is A guide to the Equality Act; Simple solutions for everyday care problems;  Ray inspires, about

a quadriplegic who climbed Kilimanjaro;  Technological advances in stroke rehabilitation; & the prestigious Naidex new product award for 2011.


Day 3 again repeats some of the previous days events but in addition you can hear from Anna Turney, Paralympic ski racer; Marie Brown, Senior Regional Fundraising Manager from Mencap; & Pippa Bromley discussing Practical suggestions for dealing with dementia.


In the professional arena you can hear from Kate Sheehan Independent Occupational Therapist discussing the impact of the Comprehensive Spending review; Lynne Allsopp Occupational Therapist speaking about Access to Communications and Technology; Stephen Davies with a design and engineering masterclass; Adam Thomas looking at Inspirational kitchen designs; Jonathan Jones from the Health Professions Council discussing CPD audit & Richard Hadley practical advice on how to avoid risk by good assessment, implementation and management practices of sling use.


Day 2 has Fiona Collins wondering if you competent to assess for and prescribe specialist seating. Graham and Ashwin Dubay playing games on the Nintendo Wii. Charles King Introducing Neuromuscular Energising Therapy. Martina Tierney on more seating matters.


Day 3 has much of the same but includes Julia Skelton looking at a The future model for occupational therapists working in social care. Nick Stone discusses working as an independent practitioner. Pat Alexander and the handling of children. And finally Sonja Waara-Conway (Founder of Nordic Care Services) discussing How can we reduce the incidence and risk of pressure sores and shearing damage for bed-bound individuals?
