The day went very well but not without hiccough (bet you didn’t know that is the correct way to spell hiccup). 118 individuals booked a place but 38 failed to turn up. Some had sent others in their place and still others turned up that had not booked on in the first place. Nevertheless, we had a peak attendance of 96 delegates.
The sound gave us problems. A bit of feedback from the speakers every now and again, but hopefully this didn’t detract to much from the event. Another minor problem was that one of the speakers, due to unforeseen circumstances failed to turn up. However, Jacqui Hall, ever the professional, was able to stand in and integrate the session with her own.
One of the biggest worries we had was that the catering may not be up to standard. You know what it is like at these events. It is impossible to cater for every taste and requirement. However, the catering was superb. Almost every response we had back was mentioning the quality of the catering.
The exhibitors were happy with their input as well. Some of whom I had asked to explain their products with the knowledge that they were actually speaking to instructors not Joe Public. Roger Brearton from Mangar International was delighted to be able to do so, because their products, especially the ELK is often demonstrated in an incorrect way, giving the false impression that it is unstable. He was delighted to correct this problem and asked us as instructors to demonstrate the equipment correctly or alternatively, give him a call and he may be able to assist.
