Well a hospital in Leeds is doing something similar with the Nintendo Wii (pronounced “wee” for the uninitiated among you). The BBC’s Newsround (a childrens version of the news for the non UK readers of this site)  has reported how physiotherapists are using this very popular game as a means of assisting children with their physiotherapy.

Lynne the physiotherapist says learning to walk again is very difficult: "It's really hard to actually put on a prosthetic limb because you've got no feeling. You can't feel the ground." She had the brainwave of using a Wii at the hospital when she was given one as a birthday present.

The Physiotherapy Journal published an article which stimulated another physio to do the same thing with older people.  His patients can enjoy a game of golf for instance without having to leave the building. Another who is chair bound can enjoy a game of ten-pin bowling, all of which is helping with their physiotherapy. The locals are calling this wii-hab (don’t groan at me - I am just reporting it).

I think it is a great idea, you can read more by following the links below.

After their normal exercises they hop onto the Wii so that they can have some fun, but also work on their muscles and improve their balance.
