University Hospital of North Staffordshire has implemented a new risk management
system that could be significant for its patient handling practices.
The trust has
installed software created by Datix to assist in its complaints procedures and health
and safety matters.
It is now used by managers at the institution to create a monthly
report flagging up any incidents that have occurred within the hospital and aid them
in avoiding such events in the future.
"We need one centralised system to record information
from all the different aspects covered by the department - claims, complaints, health
and safety and governance," remarked spokesperson Claire Rylands.
General manager
of Datix, Daniel Hazan, said the software enables health professionals to produce
a comprehensive picture of risk and helps to provide the "best in patient care".
Meanwhile, the Department for Health recently launched a new tool to help hospitals
carry out effective risk assessment in order to prevent patients contracting deep-vein
thrombosis, the most common cause of hospital mortality in the UK.
