The increase in back pain amongst school children is, in part, down to the design of the chairs they have to sit on.

The children sit on chairs which have changed little in design since the 1960s when they were designed around children who were considerably shorter and slimmer than todays youths.

Children are also spending a lot of their time in front of computers.

The BBC where we gleaned this report from referred to the Back Pain Association, (Backcare) as saying that schools are more interested in low cost per unit rather than ergonomic concerns. This may be economic for the individual schools, but it may not be the best use of resources on a national level.
