Do you remember a couple of issues ago, I mentioned the lady who fell from her bed
and, unfortunately, suffered postural asphyxiation?
Samarit, who incidentally have
just become the latest sponsor of this web site, have developed an ideal product
designed to reduce the likelihood of this happening. The BedCall® Sensor System with
EdgeSense® – provides an early warning to staff that the resident is positioned on
the edge of the bed and may attempt to exit. EdgeSense® can be disabled on the monitor
for situations that do not require the feature. The BedCall® Sensor is fail safe
– it detects the presence of the resident and automatically monitors.
This eliminates the need for an on/off switch that staff could forget to turn on or resident can turn off.
Some of the features are:-
Patented EdgeSense®
By detecting when the resident positions themselves to the edge of the bed, the monitor provides an early warning to staff prior to
the resident actually exiting the bed.
Automatic monitoring
The monitor automatically begins to monitor the resident once they get into bed eliminating the possibility of someone forgetting to turn on a power switch.
Adjustable time delay
Allows the monitor to be set for each resident’s unique sleeping habits eliminating false alarms.
Automatic or manual alarm reset
This allows staff to decide whether to require a manual reset of an alarm, or allow the unit to reset if the resident gets back into bed on their own.
Nurse Call Interface
The monitor plugs directly into the Nurse Call System and can create an alarm at the central station.
Hold function
The monitor can be put on-hold by staff so that the resident can be removed from bed without an alarm. Once the resident returns to bed, the unit automatically begins to monitor. The unit remains powered and in standby mode until the resident returns.
Volume control
Sound level can be adjusted in room.
Ultra thin and watertight
The BedCall® Sensor is so thin it causes no pressure points on patient and by being watertight it is not defeated if it comes in contact with fluids like most mats on the market.
