Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) is the postural analysis tool used in the Guide to the Handling of People 5th Edition published by Back Care, National Back Exchange and the Royal College of Nursing™.

Previous editions of this publication were straight forward in understanding where they were coming from. With the introduction of the 5th edition in 2005, the concept of REBA, which until then was the realm of individuals who had completed post graduate back care and other ergonomic courses, was hurtled headlong into the general public domain.

Many times over the years, I have been surprised at how little the average instructor knows about it. Or how some people are quick to dismiss it. Even some who have done the higher level courses. When I talk to people about their doubts, two common themes often surface. Firstly, they cannot understand why it is called RAPID entire body assessment, believing that it takes too long to do. Secondly, it is too complicated. Both of these barriers are easily overcome with the correct tuition and effort from the student.

Another reason that is sometimes given by people who don’t understand it is, “Its not important.” However, the fact that it is part of the Guide and it is used extensively throughout, shows how the profession views it as important.

As you have probably guessed by now, I have designed an online course to enable both novices and experienced instructors and key workers to fully appreciate the value of this tool. What is more, if you think REBA takes too long, or is complicated, within a short time of completing this course, you will be doing REBA assessments in less time than it takes to read a paragraph in this article (unless you have to write it down of course).

Those using it as a refresher will probably get through the material in an hour or so. Novices will likely take a bit longer, the good thing is that you can go over the material as often as you like within the 7 days you have to complete it from when you first register.

The cost is £25, however, for this month only, I have a special introductory offer of just £15. Try it out for yourself and then get your key workers to do it.
